I wrote a paper about the similarities of #Dionysian #iconography in the grave stele of early #Christians. Donkeys, wine, surrounded by "loose women" that were liberated... There's a LOT of similarities!

Oh, are we doing Last Supper versus Bacchanalian/Dionysian revelry discourse tonight? Fun! All the best fights boil down to drinking contests between the Christians and the pagans. Hint: we always win!
Here's my contribution to the discourse: https://www.erosblog.com/2016/12/24/reveling-reveling-reveling/
Post features the painting "The Youth Of Bacchus" by William-Adolphe Bouguereau. The youth are drunk, naked, and worshipping their asses off.

Greetings.
Here's a little #introduction. I want to stay connected, but I'm getting sick of ads, algorithms, and other hazards of more conventional social media, so I'm trying out Mastodon.
I was born in the early 80s. I have lived in the US states of #Louisiana, #Georgia, and #Kentucky. I have a bachelor's degree in English.
I'm a #pagan, #polytheist, and #animist devoted primarily to a few Greek and Egyptian deities. I'm a #Dionysian. My practice includes daily #meditation, devotional activities to various deities and spirits, finding modern ways to celebrate ancient holidays, and ancestor work, among other things.
I also enjoy #drawing, #painting, #flowarts, #hiking, #reading, #writing, watching #movies, and #gaming in my spare time.
Some other interests include #animation, #anthropology, #buddhism, #divination, #folklore, #history, #linguistics, #literature, #music, #mythology, #psychology, #puppetry, #religion, and #theatre.
Anyone have favorite recommendations to learn about Greek (Roman, Egyptian too, but definitely closer to antiquity than medieval and later) mystery cults?
I have Hugh Bowden's Thames & Hudson text and Michael Cosmopoulos' work on the archaeology in my own collection. Should I next try Burkert's dedicated work on the mysteries? Anything else? Journal articles? Scholar specialists?

My friend Dver finished her book on her cultus for and the Mysteries of Fungal #Dionysus! It's a beautiful, 82-page book in a limited, devotional run of 20 copies. Check it out: https://forestdoor.wordpress.com/2023/10/02/mycogenous/

I mention this because I was slightly irritated by my attraction to the catchphrase "This is the way" in Disneys #Starwars series #theMandalorian.
Well, I knew before that #GeorgeLucas was inspired by Daoism and #zen Buddhism eventually #Nietzsches #appollonian and #dionysian Principles as well as the idea of the #roman #oldrepublic vs the rise of #theEmpire, but were irritated that Disney seems to try to get a grip at least some of that ideas.
That brings me to the relevant point for
