Fun Fact: In the 1970s and 80s, TSR published the maps for their D&D adventures in blue to prevent piracy. That specific color of blue wouldn’t copy on analog optical photocopy machines. Today, D&D maps in “non-photo blue” are easily reproduced with scanners or digital copiers. New adventure maps in this blue are now only done for aesthetic purposes and nostalgia’s sake. #ttrpg #ttrpgs #dnd #adnd #bxdnd #tsr #tsrhobbies #tsrinc #1980s

Any thoughts on the comparison of the fighter class between #odnd ( #swordandwizardry ) and basic #dnd / #bxdnd ( #OSE )?

The original version has class features / abilities the basic version lacks. Is the latter fighter hit die, weapon and armor proficiency and save only?

"Tucker's Kobolds" from 1987 is about giving weak #dnd monsters (honestly) excessive tricks including traps. It's a meme now, picked up on YouTube.

Looking through editions, there are zero references to kobolds using traps before it. #odnd just says they are weaker than goblins, basically the crappest humanoid. #adnd1e has them just fighting. #bxdnd says they "ambush". All before 1987. But #adnd2e (1989) has heavy reference to traps for them. TSR eating their own memes.

@Jackgiantkiller I wouldn't want to do it in 5e, but I'm (so slowly) working on one for #bxdnd
I couldn't resist buying myself a Christmas present. I have such affection for #OSE! #OldSchoolEssentials #necroticgnome #bxdnd

Favorite game system?

This will come as no shock, but classic D&D. It is in no way, shape or form the perfect system for everything, it isn't even the perfect system for D&D (as if there could be such a thing) but it's such a great system for tinkering with, both on it's own and through the many many retro clones and derivative games that have come out of the OSR.

5) Oldest #TTRPG I've played.

Ever: AD&D 1e (published 1979)

This year: Pathfinder 1e (published 2009), unless Old School Essentials counts as being the same as the 1981 Moldvay edition of B/X D&D

I never liked #BXDnD back in the day. "Why would I want 'basic' when there's 'advanced'?" I asked myself. Now I know that all the stuff that annoyed me about #DnD was mostly just AD&D and WotC-era "innovations".

1E+: The invisibility spell makes a creature invisible until it attacks. Here are 6 paragraphs of legalese to define the precise meaning of "creature", "invisible", & "attack".

BX: You're invisible until you attack. You know damn well what that means! If you don't, ask the DM.

This morning on the way to school, my kid asked me what version of #DnD is the "Honor Among Thieves" movie based on. He's only played #bxdnd via #OldSchoolEssentials so I wasn't sure if I should get into all the editions in the short time we had.

Luckily, he got distracted by telling me about his idea for a druidic lich so I didn't have to explain the tangled mess of OD&D, BX, BECMI, AD&D1E, AD&D2E, 3E, 3.5E, Pathfinder, 4E, 5E...
