3) dangerous magic (biggest „problem“ since dnd magic works like a super predictable, but diminishing resource): when casting a spell, also roll a d10. On a 1: spell fails and weird side-effect occurs, on a 10: weird, but beneficial side effect occurs. The higher the spell level, the more bizarre are positive/negative side effects

2) Gritty combat: on a natural 20, save or receive a lingering/permanent wound, which might result in permanent loss of 1 point in a randomly determined ability score
