This week's #bakingyesteryear project: ColorVision Cake. Not a good cake to bake in 2025 as it requires six egg whites (six!!), but I'll give it 7.5/10. I'm very disappointed that the cake color isn't anything like the photo in the book. I suppose it could be because I didn't use cherry gelatin - they only had strawberry at the store. Also, I think about 2 minutes could be shaved off the bake time. However, the frosting (which also contains gelatin along with a LOT of butter) is dynamite.

This week's #bakingyesteryear project: Chocolate Mayonnaise Cake. With eggs in my area costing $5.15/dozen, this no eggs, no butter, no oil 1950s cake is perfect for 2025. It's moist, soft, and full of flavor. The only changes I made to the recipe were that I used light mayo instead of full fat, and I baked it in a Bundt pan not a tube pan. This is by far the best chocolate cake I've baked so far. 13/10 will definitely bake again. Enjoy the bonus pic of the loaf of bread I also baked today.

This week's Baking Yesteryear project: chocolate sauerkraut cake. IMHO, this is basically the only way to make American sauerkraut edible. Other than a very slight tang, you don't really taste the sauerkraut; it does add moisture and texture though. 10/10 would bake again. And yeah, we're still using up the paper plates left over from Christmas. #baking #bakingyesteryear
