If a spreadsheet with GPT wrappers could really spot layoff waves in 2 minutes, Goldman Sachs would be knocking. Not choosing this course is my ultimate self-rescue 🫡 #AIBiz #HustleGPT

Check this out:

Goldman Sachs put out a report titled "Gen AI: Too Much Spend, Too Little Benefit?" which, at least, shows some investment banks returning to Earth. (If not the venture funds...)

The link in the post below has a good summary and also contains a link to the full report from Sachs.

This is interesting stuff: Ed Zitron writes on how Goldman Sachs, who like any investment bank ”will gladly hype anything if it thinks it'll make a buck” soured on generative AI. ”A week and a half ago, Goldman Sachs put out a 31-page-report (titled "Gen AI: Too Much Spend, Too Little Benefit?”) that includes some of the most damning literature on generative AI I've ever seen.” https://www.wheresyoured.at/pop-culture/

In a final note of self-parody, the CEO signed this blog post with:

"💜 Sara
Lattice. Because people."

This is a joke, right!?

"Today Lattice is making AI history. We will be the first to give digital workers official employee records in Lattice. Digital workers will be securely onboarded, trained, and assigned goals, performance metrics, appropriate systems access, and even a manager. Just as any person would be."

We need to employ AI as responsibly as we employ people, and to empower everyone to thrive working together. — Jul 09, 2024 by Sarah Franklin

Okay, how do I turn off Amazon's in-app AI? I don't want or need anything that it has to say to me.

Thanks, Jeff! Fuck off!

Sales lost to #Rufus n+1.

I am not going to lie, I don't really follow #AI model jailbreaking discussions very closely, but the use of multiple languages and word order as a way to bypass the guardrails was new to me.

Maybe we should call this a Babel-Attack.

As someone who develops #LLM tools, I really appreciate Google's approach compared to (un-)OpenAI's.

With Google, I can hit their API while I'm doing my development work for free, and only when I scale up do I get charged. (u)OAI, on the other hand, requires me to pay for every single API hit. Which makes development costly. Especially since I regularly make dumb mistakes in my code!

This will cost them over time.

There are a lot of people asking questions about what OpenAI's business model is going to be, now that GPT-4o is "free."

I don't see a lot of evidence that their business model treats the chatbot as the main profit center, as much as it focuses on B2B transactions, and I imagine those will continue to increase exponentially.

I guess I just find it weird that so many people have glommed on to this particular point...

"We couldn’t agree to terms on a for-profit with Elon because we felt it was against the mission for any individual to have absolute control over OpenAI."

And yet, that is exactly the situation that holds today, except that individual is Sam Altman. The board has been gutted and made impotent.

Pick your billionaire (I guess)!

I will continue to choose "none of the above."

How is it that the #ai community has so many people in it who want to make Terminator real?

"US closer to using AI-drones that can autonomously decide to kill humans"

(For the record, I'm not really worried about Terminator. I'm worried about the humans who will deploy these purpose-built atrocities.)

The use of drones capable of deciding whether to kill humans is alarming critics.
