Also: my original idea wasn't quite so 3D but because I had to hand-cut the silk leaves from much larger leaves (variegated oak), I use a thin layer of clear nail polish to prevent fraying on the cotoneaster leaf edges.
While I left them after to cure/offgas for a couple of weeks, I realised adding them into the actual slipcover art using a manual button-stitching technique I learned years ago would ENSURE nothing nasty lingering on the leaves would be likely to come in through the filter media beneath the artwork.

Had a rare moment of suitably snappy comeback earlier today.
As I passed an older couple shopping in an aisle, the woman said "Oh, cute!" and then stammered a bit as she tried to get the man's attention from the shelves and towards me, as she continued with "That thing, I mean. That's cute."
Me: "Oh, that's okay, I'm cute, too." 😀
She looked slightly mortified and then relieved when I continued, "Seriously though, thanks. I just finished this design a few weeks ago and I'm rather happy with it."

@likelyjanlukas Oh, that is cute! A great way to make use of those blank canvases you're wearing on your face every day.
I often think about making a lace or crochet cover for my (N95) masks, but I've never got around to it. @IPEdmonton's mask art project had been an inspiration, but I don't think she ever went quite so 3D as yours!
Ahhh! Well, I have tried my hand with crochet with the intention to use on masks someday and I completely suck at it …
… but …
Secondand shops pretty consistently carry gorgeous crocheted items that others have found of no value, and usually aren't very expensive. 😢
And I am very good at modifying things and confident I can manage stitching bits of salvaged crochet to prevent unravelling and also help shape the new art it will become.
I am looking forward to incorporating these beautiful and unappreciated works into my own reimaginings (rather than them eventually being junked entirely). ❤️
