I read a fun post by Wouter Groeneveld at Brain Baking titled  Why I Don’t Need a Steam Machine. The post ends with a humorous twist that I will refrain from spoiling. Speaking for myself, I will not purchase a Steam Machine. I already have a mini PC connected to my TV (Fedora KDE). If I needed something better than a mini PC with an N100 CPU and the associated integrated graphics for gaming purchases, I would buy (or build) one instead of purchasing a Steam Machine. With that being said, I think the Steam Machine is a good thing. Steam’s efforts to make games work on Linux benefit Linux (and by extension, me) generally, and I hope that a successful Steam machine would encourage more game developers to specifically target Linux (or at least make sure Windows games work on Proton/WINE) without hassle (note that I do not play games with weird kernel-level anti-cheat so Linux already works well enough for my gaming purposes).

(PS: I am a fan of the Steam Machine’s cube form factor but not enough of a fan to spend more than $600.)

The Arduboy is a rare example of an open source video game console. The company just announced that it is releasing a new model in December 2025 with USB-C and link cable (how nostalgic!) support. I find this intriguing. However, I bought an Arduboy about a year ago and have not really used it yet. Now that I finally set up my Anbernic RG351V with AmberELEC, I should cross one other handheld game to-do item off my list (especially since no OS change is required for my Arduboy).
