#Swedish authorities seized the vessel suspected of damaging the cable in the #Baltic_Sea.
Prosecutors of #Sweden opened a preliminary investigation and ordered the detention of the vessel. Reportedly, the vessel is #Vezhen, a ship under the flag of #Malta. It left the #Russian port of #Ust_Luga a few days earlier and was between #Gotland and #Latvia when the cable was damaged.
The investigation continues.

Sweden has opened a preliminary investigation into suspected aggravated “sabotage” and ordered the detention of a vessel in the Baltic Sea suspected of damaging an underwater fiber optic cable connecting Latvia and the Swedish island of Gotland earlier that day. The Swedish Coast Guard confirmed to the newspaper Expressen that they were on site near the vessel which the paper identified as the Malta-flagged Vezhen, at anchor near the port of Karlskrona. Sunday’s rupture follows a string of incidents that have heightened fears of Russian sabotage and spying in the strategic region.

Det har upptäckts skador på en undervattenskabel mellan Lettland och Gotland, rapporterar lettiska public servicebolaget LSM. Kabeloperatören uppger för LSM att det finns anledning att tro att skadan kan bero på yttre påverkan.
