If it doesn't happen already love to see a scheme introduced where utility companies pay a bond equivalent to the estimated road surface reinstatement cost before being allowed to dig up any public road or pavement that is only paid back after the surface has been properly reinstated to a suitable standard.

Way too many of the potholes in Glasgow's streets originate from substandard reinstatement of the road surface after they've been dug up by utility companies. This should be such an easy thing to prevent, and would potentially save Glasgow City Council a lot of money as they're the ones who end up having to deal with them.

This hole, about a foot and a half in length and at least a foot deep, has opened up in a street near me in the last couple of days. The cause looks to be a utilities access cover which been removed and then the void created by this has been left unfilled before being covered over with tarmac (you can see two of the edges of the patch in the top photo).

#FERC approved the transaction on the back of a previously granted blanket authorization to BlackRock that allows the asset manager to acquire up to 20% of voting securities of certain types of #UtilityCompanies. BlackRock first received the authorization in 2010, and the Commission declined to reconsider it as part of the transaction.

Why, whenever a privitised company fucks up, is the tax-payer expected to bail it out so that it can continue to trade?

They should be put into administration, with the entire industry renationalised without delay.
