@adr Granted, just by the hardware parts they'd loose out if they were to sell at €749 (you can thank the #AIbubble as well as #RAM & #NAND - #Tripol #Cartel and lack of #regulation for that).

  • OFC #retailers also want their margin, and unless one's in a position like #Apple, the #retail margin will be 10-20% depending on the market, whether it's a #online or in-presence stores or whatever. And that is already a low margin.

Everyone who expects this a €499 box is fucking dellusional at this point, because with the current memory prices and expected developments people would just buy truckloads of them to harvest the #GabeCube for it's #RAM, #SSD & #VRAM and scrap the rest.

If the #GabeCube is competitive priced if not cheaper than equivalent #Desktops and #Servers then we'd see every #business with "strategic procurement" just buy literal truckloads expecting #DRAM & #Flash prices to not come down this upgrade cycle (aka. within 5 years) but still needing some machines to work with as the heightened prices - like the #ChipShortage before - will strangulate the #UsedMarket.

  • I kid you not, we'd rather see #scalpers and #businesses equipping employees with cash, credit cards and high-value gift cards just to pick shelves clean (just like it happens with #GPUs because that shit is now hotter on the black market than "research chemicals" because it has less risk and higher payouts).

So do expect the #Gabecube to cost way more than €749 + VAT and closer to €999 than €749 since #Poland has a low #VAT / #GST rate and is a 'low income' place (compared to the EU-Average)...

  • The €749 would've been more realistic by the time it was announced but the €499 never were for any non-closed system subsidized harder than the #PS3.

@Kerplunk @Ninji needless to say relying on the #UsedMarket is not sustainable and in many places not even an option… (video via #LowSpecGamer)

i appreciate that in some countrys PC components used or new are an absolute ripoff. That can often be circumvented by Purchase from Ali Express for example.

Used not sustainable, what is not sustainable is good hardware being shredded to prevent it reaching the used market.

Other problem is often persons brainwashed to windoze only.

@fluffykittycat @StarkRG shure, and with the #UsedMarket being strained for quite some time any "fresh #refurbished devices" are welcome...

@RxBrad Also those who can #backlog stuff already do it as much as they can, and like with the #PriceGouging with #Cars, we see the same with #tech: #UsedMarket gets destroyed due to lack of 'new' devices!

@betelgeuse93 @itsfoss Okay, I've to admit this is very #EU-centric but there are lots of #refurbished #amd64-based, #fanless #ThinClients on the market.

One can easily find a hp t520 or t620 with dualcore AMD GX-Series APUs, 4GB RAM and 16GB SSD for as little as €25 with power supply (excl. shipping)...

OFC as we all know from #LowSpecGamer the #UsedMarket in #DevelopingNations is completely fucked up which is why stuff like a GT210, 750 and 1030 will still sell there.

And then the #UX is way worse in spite of decades of #innovation, #feedback and #improvements available to #developers, #publishers and #PlatformHolders...

I've yet to see a compelling reason to pick up an #8thGenConsole much less a #9thGenConsole as the pricing for #Consoles and #Games shoots up but there are fewer and fewer games worth the effort...

  • Cuz even if we ignore the #UsedMarket out of fairness, there's not really anything that worth spending €500+ / $500+ on a console with controller and a game when the same game can be subjectively experienced better on a #PC that one is kinda forced to own anyway to a degree because our #online world necessitates us to do things like #eMail and most people won't stop #OnlineShopping, #OnlineBanking and all the other things even if they could feasibly choose to do so to begin with.

@dankeykang And then the same #Contentmafia has the audacity to complain about people who just want to chug a file into #VLC and be done with it.

I know for a fact at least a dozen movies who didn't get any #rerelease - #Streaming or #disc - that are thus "#unobtainable" outside of #UsedMarket and thus #scalpers and #piracy.

  • It's not as if people "don't want to pay" it's that they can't even get shit if they are able and willing to do so!

@selzero I can recommend #wacom both as #user and #SystemsIntegrator:

  • As "#expensive" as they may seem, their stuff just works out of the box, has excellent quality and gets excellent support in terms of #drivers & #Software support...

  • I daily drive my #X230Tablet and that is essentially using a #Wacom #Stylus and #Touchscreen combo.

  • I have also tried out the Wacom 13 Pro when it was new and have often setup systems with Chitiq Tablet PCs and Drawing Screens and they are just gorgeous to look and a breeze to work on - regardless if #creative or #engineering workflows...

  • You may even find some cheap #used / #refurbished #wacom devices of your choice in your area's most prolific #UsedMarket|s...

@neil Granted, I do think this could make for a cool #ScrapyardWars #Extreme #Challenge and that should be done way more - espechally since we live in economies with a rational #UsedMarket...
