@wyatt Firefox 149 adds Split View, which I understand as a multi-document interface (MDI) with a rudimentary tiling window manager. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/split-view-firefox

Split View in Firefox | Firefox Help

How to use split view to view tabs side by side in Firefox version 149 and above.

My imagination:🙊

In future,
any terminal, browser, terminal multiplexers, window managers all will have a common UX pattern like
1) Vertical or horizontal tabs
2) tiling, scrollable tiling(like niri)
etc etc for a similar UX for easier engagement and management.

Taking the features of one from the other will bring this soon❤️

So I did some fiddling around with KDE and managed to turn it into a really decent tiling WM using the Krohnkite KWin script.

My main gripe with hyprland and the likes, plus all the panels like waybar, nwg-panels, hyprpanel etc. was their barebones nature and the complete lack of responsiveness - no useful context menus, barely any customisation unless you spend way too much time writing CSS and bash scripts, no integration with the rest of the system.

Krohnkite solves that by giving you proper tiling inside an actual complete desktop environment.

The only caveat is that you cannot shift focus from a window on one screen to a window on another screen, you have to use the "switch screen" combination instead, and I haven't found yet how to make the mouse cursor move to the window along with the focus.

Dash to Dock just broke after the recent update, auto-hide doesn't always work.

Quite annoying when the dock covers up the bottom of windows. But whatever, I uninstalled it.

I plan to move to the tiling WM world anyways in the summer (because I want auto-tiling, which is only available on GNOME, KDE and COSMIC among the DEs afaik, but all will be Wayland-only soon, and I still need X11 because of a few minor things, although there's Sonic DE but who knows how much time it will take to arrive to Debian Stable, and I don't want to distrohop, also, I noticed some lag on GNOME recently, and some freezing once or twice, maybe my laptop is aging. KDE isn't more lightweight either, COSMIC is lighter, but it isn't as mature yet, it may also get heavier later on, as more things will be added), when I'll have more time to configure stuff, research how to do stuff and set up everything how I want it to work, etc., so it's time to slowly transition to that workflow anyways. (Phew, what a long sentence lol)

I just use the built-in search of GNOME, press Super key and type the name of the program, the same way I'll probably do on a tiling WM.

Actually I'll might also change my habits to hold Super key to drag windows, instead of grabbing their header.

It's like when Windows users are told to try out programs which are also available on Linux, before actually switching to Linux lol.

Long after making it, it finally became useful for more than avoiding to type 'sway --unsupported-gpu'.

Turns out some software on linux doesn't work well with tiling compositors. Some doesn't work well with Wayland desktops. Some doesn't work with some X11 desktops for no apparent reason, but does work with different X11 desktops.

And here my desktop in "all its glory".

I left #dms pretty vanilla because it just looks great out of the box. That I could move the bar very, very easily to the left to fit better into my #niri workflow is superb as well.

As I said: very happy with the outcome.

Introducing #Yashiki: A new tiling window manager for macOS.

If you miss #River or #AwesomeWM on your Mac, this is for you.

It features tag-based workspace management and an external layout engine (plugin system), heavily inspired by the River philosophy.
I built this over the weekend because I needed something closer to my Linux workflow.
