L’uscita del tycoon arriva in risposta a una domanda del giornalista Hugh Hewitt, che gli chiedeva come mai il Papa non intervenisse in favore di Jimmy Lai, attivista di Hong Kong attualmente incarcerato in Cina.
“Il Papa preferisce parlare del fatto che per l’Iran va bene avere un’arma nucleare, e non credo che sia una cosa positiva”, ha aggiunto il presidente degli Stati Uniti.
Dichiarazioni che potrebbero complicare non poco il tentativo di mediazione di Rubio, intenzionato a favorire un riavvicinamento tra il presidente degli Stati Uniti e il Pontefice, mettendo fine a una spaccatura che preoccupa il Partito Repubblicano a soli sei mesi dalle elezioni di midterm.
