I don't speak nor understand Spanish but I know a ton of loanwords in Tagalog. This video by #Langfocus is very interesting and I learned several new things. Like the fact that the Tagalog word for peanut 🥜 (“manî”) comes from Taíno and not Spanish or Nahuatl, and that “barkada” (group of friends) comes from the Spanish for “boatload”.

Sophie Prime is a very interesting content creator from a linguistics standpoint.

There have been Filipino content creators who have been known for their own brand of gay slang (e.g. Queen Dura, Sesable, Macoy Dubs). But only Sophie Prime has achieved success this influential and *deliberate*.

And I say deliberate, because her followers literally maintain a dictionary for the slang they use.

I am not comfortable with straight dudes and dudettes using "pakak" like a gangsta term. That's a gay slang first and foremost. They can't even pronounce it right—the stress is on the second syllable, not the first! >:(
