Burg Castle in the Solingen village of Burg is a hilltop castle (approx. 100 metres above the river Wupper) whose origins date back to the 12th century. After various destructions, it was steadily rebuilt from 1890 onwards and is one of the largest castles in western Germany.
It has been the ancestral castle of the counts and later dukes of Berg since the 12th century and is now one of the most popular and most visited cultural sites in the Rhineland.
