๐ Stroud District Council has completed the purchase of 13 new affordable homes in Cam, continuing its work to increase the supply of high-quality housing for local people. ๐กโจ
The homes are at the Lister Gardens development, built by Wain Homes on the northern edge of the village. The site is within walking distance of local amenities and Cam & Dursley train station ๐ถโโ๏ธ๐, with good road and rail links to Stroud, Gloucester, Cheltenham and Bristol. The development also includes areas of open space and an on-site play area. ๐ณ๐
The council has acquired a mix of homes, including six for shared ownership (two two-bedroom houses and four one-bedroom flats) and seven for affordable rent (four two-bedroom homes, two three-bedroom homes and one four-bedroom home). ๐๏ธ๐
All properties include gas central heating, solar panels, electric vehicle charging points, dedicated parking and private gardens. โกโ๏ธ๐๐ฑ They have been designed to be energy efficient, helping residents keep running costs down. ๐ท๐
The wider development also supports local wildlife ๐ฆ๐ฆ, with features such as bird boxes and a hedgehog highway! ๐พ
Councillor Gary Luff, Chair of the Councilโs Housing Committee, said:
"Securing high-quality affordable homes in well-connected locations like Cam is vital if we're to meet the needs of our residents." ๐ฃ๏ธ๐The homes have been secured through Section 106 agreements, which require developers to include affordable housing within new developments. These agreements allow councils and housing providers to purchase homes at a reduced cost, helping to make the most of public investment while meeting local housing need. ๐ค๐๏ธ
There are currently more than 3,000 households on Stroud District Councilโs housing register. Acquisitions like Lister Gardens form an important part of the councilโs approach to increasing affordable housing, alongside its own council house building programme. ๐๐๏ธ

> FOSS has a very unfortunate weak spot in its foundation, that being the idea that โfreeโ implies โwithout ownershipโ rather than โequitably shareableโ
๐ฏ! Just dropped a #meme depicting how #SX considers #FOSS: https://social.coop/@smallcircles/116433599463361421
#Equity is the word. I wrote a blog on #SharedOwnership earlier: https://coding.social/blog/shared-ownership
Note, that "libertarianism" is emergent, comes with scale. I avoid the term for its political heat it often introduces, and how that stifles #solution-orientation.
> I make product actually meet the usersโ needs, cuz damn, you didnโt!
It's funny how actual #Needs are often totally unknown, esp. in FOSS. The #technology then quickly exists mostly for the sake of itself. Damn the externalities.
Social coding commons defines FOSS as the pure software artifact. Code + an open license. Period. All the rest is #SocialCoding where all #expectations we have are either implied and unjustified, or warranted with mutual understanding. The latter is hardly done.
