Does science communication help researchers advance their careers and increase the impact of their work?

We discussed the role of #SciComm with around 60 add-on fellows and journalism students.

Key takeaways:
👉 Contextualize scientific findings: Scientists and journalists need a better understanding of each other's work.
👉 SciComm is undervalued in academia compared to publishing.
👉 Public engagement can open doors to new collaborations.

If you communicate that climate change is due to humans, you antagonise people and democracy.
On the contrary, a struggle for habitability would highlight harmful activities.

For example, you may replace "Each year we release greenhouse gases" by "Each year activities release greenhouse gases".

In Glasgow, Hannah presented our Cucurbitaceae resarch at EURO EVO DEVO 2026.

Who stole the blue flowers? Cucurbitaceae lack the genes required for anthocyanin and proanthocyanidin biosynthesis. This is quite unusual, as these genes are conserved in most flowering plants. Check out the full story in our recent preprint "Out of the blue: Family-wide loss of anthocyanin biosynthesis in Cucurbitaceae".

He calculated which sled dog to shoot on which day and beat the South Pole by ten days. Sixteen years later, Roald Amundsen climbed into a French prototype flying boat to rescue a man he'd called a circus wagon of the skies, and vanished.
