@ascentale @meganL I don't really agree with the tendency in the article that non-adherence to standards is something new in the bike industry: there are hardly any parts of traditional bikes that didn't come in a variety of incompatible versions: seatposts, bottom brackets, headsets, cranks: multiple sizes, fractions of a millimetre apart, "french"/"italian"/"british" threads, etc. Why do we #Retrogrouch have sites like https://velobase.com - because we are constantly Looking Stuff Up … >

Enjoy faffing about with a #homelab, #docker, #OpenSource #Software, #FOSS & #FLOSS but very much a hobby. Equally happy with #gardening, #horticulture, #RegenerativeAgriculture, #foraging and generally spending a bit of time #outdoors. @ascentale @InkySchwartz #bikenite - A7. No. Great thing about vintage cycling technology is that it is largely (A) user- and field-servicable and (b) uses modular interchangeable components. I curse Shimano for using monopoly power not just to push inferior tech (as did Microsoft) and race-driven tech for non-racers for whon it is ill-suited but also to push planned obsolescence through constantly changing proprietary incompatibility and black-box non-servicability.
