@grammasaurus @ascentale @bikenite that is an excellent old bridge

has anyone taken pictures of the writing in the cast iron plates at the top? it's probably the manufacturer and maybe the year. those things got shipped real distances for installation sometimes. :D

A3. MTB style bars tend to be very wide, which is an issue in Tokyo traffic. But I also discovered my hands go numb more quickly the wider the bar. The flatbar on my commuter is now 440mm. I have drop bars on my gravel bike, I believe 40cm with a slight flair, and I ride almost exclusively on the hoods. They're fine for me.

My buddy got Denham bars for his custom tourer and loves them.

My one try with alternative bars was a Surly Corner Bar for the commuter. That lasted one ride. Not an issue with the bars per se but the resultant position -- forward and low -- was not what I was aiming for. Replaced with a flat Nitto bar.

@ascentale @marywordymary @bikenite A5: I got a disc brake lock for mine. It has a loud piercing alarm that goes off if you move the bike (or knock it around). It is meant for motorcycles but works fine on the front disc brake of a bike.

I also have an Aventon with an ACU that will message my phone if the bike gets moved.

And a big lock as well... Belts and suspenders sort of thing.

I also got bike insurance just in case all of that fails.

@ascentale @TicklishHoneyBee @bikenite #bikenite A4 I have have gradually loaded up my gravel bike aero bars with a light, a garage door opener, and a quadlock phone mount. I have a little cat eye computer on the stem and a revalate gas tank snack bag on the top tube. Oh and a rear view mirror on the end of the left drop bar.
@ascentale @gcvsa @bikenite #bikenite A3 I too am a big fan of the Jones H Bar, which I have on my fatbike. I also really like the extra positions I get with clip on aero bars on my drop bar bikes.
@ascentale @InkySchwartz @bikenite #bikenite A1 posting from Carbon County Montana. Do it.

A4, gravel bike: [L] Knog bell, out-front Garmin mount. [R] GoPro mount when I can be bothered. The headlamp is mounted to the fork crown.

I've tried a food pouch, but it interfered with my knee when I was out of the saddle (or, more commonly, braced at a stop).

A4, commuter: Hand-made brass bell from Tomii on the left. Garmin rubberband mount on the stem. Restrap bag in the center. Headlight on the right.

@moz @ascentale @bikenite I would definitely give a reverse stem a double-take, but it's your bike and if that works for you then it's all good.

@dr2chase @ascentale @gcvsa @bikenite I have the same issue with flat bars. I have them on my commuter, and I'm fine with 50 minutes each way. Anything longer and I'm on my gravel bike with my hands on the hoods.

@oheso @jliska @ascentale @marywordymary @bikenite I dunno about a screwdriver but the Vietnamese one we had rusted out in less than a year and the moving bar part of the lock disappeared.

I expect the Dutch ones are better. Also, the ones Gazelle use have a receptacle for a chain lock so you can lock it to something as well.
