Damn, just a wall of withered reeds... Where is it... There!

While I was waiting for the sun to illuminate a couple of frozen daisies on Saturday morning, I decided to check nearby bulrushes to see if they were covered in frost as well. They were, and I started photographing one of them. Suddenly I heard peculiar calls coming from the reeds around me. Bearded reedlings! I backed off to retrieve my telephoto lens and returned, hoping to catch at least one of the birds. Fortunately this male came to see who I was before disappearing into the reeds again. It is my first photo of these cute birds. They are rare in Finland. Maybe next time I'll be able to get photos of them in better light :)

As seed eaters, bearded tits need water in winter time, even when reed shores are frozen and there is a lot of snow. So, they eat snow.
