A storm’s surge scoured
From a peaceful home gathered
Into a trough were washed
Tumbled, buried, cached
Preserved by subsequent deposition
Of sands maintaining their condition
Providing clues to a nearby microbiome
And the populations that once called it home

Against a mountainous base
From a far off place
