Moorings are lowered from our boat and can be left in place for long periods. To recover them, an acoustic release mechanism detaches the anchor from the instrument, which then floats back to the surface and is collected by the scientists.

07.06.2023/Cuxhaven/Kiel. Support ocean research and learn more about the ocean in a changing climate: GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel and Trans-Ocean –Verein zur Förderung des Hochseesegelns e.V. invite sailors on the Baltic Sea to collect scientific data. The project “Citizen Science: Sailing for Oxygen” will be launched during a stopover of the global regatta “The Ocean Race” on 9 June 2023 in Kiel. Initial pilot measurements will take place this summer. From the coming season, there will be more extensive opportunities for participation.
