"ワンネゴのようなオンライン調停サービスは「ODR（Online Dispute Resolution ）」と呼ばれる。トラブル解決でイメージされやすいのは裁判だが、時間や費用がかかるため、費用対効果で泣き寝入りになることも珍しくない。一方、ODRは、公正な手続きでありながら、費用負担が少なく、比較的軽微なトラブルの解決方法として注目されている。

すでに海外では、ネットオークションの「eBay」が年間6000万件ある出品者・落札者間のトラブル解決で活用するなどの事例がある。規模はまだまだ小さいものの、日本でもODR普及の兆しがでてきた。

#DYK Did you know one of the first Online Dispute Resolution #ODR system incorporated into a public justice system is the Civil Resolution Tribunal #CRT in #BritishColumbia, #Canada? It was implemented in 2015, and its jurisdiction has been enlarged in small increments. It now adjudicates for 6 statutes, and lists others on its website.

In nine winters here, it’s the best rink we’ve had. Conditions were with us all the way, and every skate was a joy. Still 15 inches of solid ice—but only the top 1/16” matters, and tomorrow that will be in sad shape.

A strange #ODR development: it warmed up over the weekend and around half the rink had standing water on it. Then it snowed lightly and got colder. Where the snow landed on the ice, no problem. Where it landed on the standing water, it made a slush that then froze. As a result, on about half the rink the ice sits around 3/8” higher. Photo shows a very clear line.

Last night I flooded the “low” half to raise the level of the ice. It seems to have worked. Will resurface the entire thing tonight.

The downside of having your own back yard ice… cleaning it off after it snows. It’s only a 40x20 (in feet, a little over 12 meters by just under 7 meters) rink, but it’s a bit of workout. Fortunately it was only a couple inches (about 5cm) of powdery snow.
