Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 898 , Monday 13/04/2026

Monday started far earlier than I had hoped so I was up and having breakfast by 07:15.

Did my chores after breakfast then at around 10am I decided that a walk to the local leisure centre where my new gym is would be a good ideal.

It was a lovely sunny day & while the temp was nothing to write home about it was warm in the sun!

I was foolish & decided to do the entire walk … fine on the way out but even with a 15 minute break for a sarnie (egg n mayo) & an OJ … gotta hydrate people!

It turns out that it was around 8.6km (5.4 miles) all told & I was dead on my feet at 6km.
But one has to get home & so I literally stumbled home - pace out was 11.4 mins / km pace back was over 15!

Some of our hills in deepest, darkest Yorkshire are right humdingers & I copped for a good few today!

I got home just before 1pm & managed to change into my ordinary attire before collapsing on my comfy chair.

I got back on the PS5 this afternoon, & checked out the latest reviews for Starfield on the PlayStation … good job too, seems it is riddled with bugs & folks are only get a few minutes play before it crashes. I shall, therefore, wait until later in the year, No doubt Bethesda will patch it & reduce the price right down to encourage uptake - so that is when I will revisit it.
Meanwhile I still have a Space itch to scratch - played far too much NMS so have dug out my copy of Elite:Dangerous Horizons. I had archived it when the devs decided that there would be no further updates, but as others have pointed out it is still eminently playable. I had forgotten how complicated the controls were though!

Final Thoughts.

My legs are killing me, hopefully a good nights sleep will see me right!

I am pleased I fought past the door demons (even if I did forget to shave & looked like Forest Gump after his marathon run! ) & got out for a walk - they do say ‘no pain, no gain!’ I totally had the pain & seemed to have gained more pain so that adage seems to hold true!

It has been a month since we moved into our new home. The whole process took 11 months, which meant that we were subjected to uncertainty, anxiety and stress for almost an entire year. I partially shut down, only focusing on the task at hand and dealing with the numerous associated issues. Everything else was neglected.

Although there is still a lot of work to do to truly make it our own, we already feel at home. We are happy and optimistic about the future. I'm surprised by how quickly we have settled in; emerging from 'sleep mode' has taken longer, but I'm finally ready to engage with the world again 😊

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 897 , Sunday 12/04/2026

Sunday started far earlier than it should have with everyone & their sheepdog forgetting it was a SUNDAY!
So I was downstairs making breakfast by 07:30.

Did my chores & a few miscellaneous odd jobs then settled down for the afternoon.

I found out why it still hurts to get up from a chair, & indeed sit on anything that doesn’t have a cushion! Whatever I did to my leg last week has left some massive bruises all the way up the back of my thigh & some around the side too just for good measure!

Final Thoughts.

I’ve chipped an upper incisor, so I guess I’ll have to get the dentist to look at it - it’s not painful but its sharp and annoying, just right where the tip of ones tongue rests. *sigh*

Mrs S is in the office tomorrow so come hell or high water I’m having a lie in! Ear plugs, the works happening tonight!

Yesterday, we took a ride along the East Lancashire Railway. My father-in-law used to fire the engines of steam locomotives (in the late 1950s/early 1960s), so this must have brought back fond memories for him. He often tells us about cooking breakfasts on a shovel and goes into great detail when describing the trains he used to help operate. The driver kindly took him onto the footplate, where he could get a closer look at the controls.

Our thoroughly enjoyable journey from Rawtenstall to Heywood (and back) was powered by Tornado. As the Legends of Steam III event was taking place this weekend, there were plenty of rail enthusiasts present 🚂

Saturday started around 07:20.

It’s not been a bad day, this morning was filled with chores the afternoon chilling out with Mrs S catching up on her shows.

Chinese takeaway was the highlight of the day.

Starfield has made it to the PS5, I was soooo pissed when it was first released in 2023 & they left out the Playstation, but now it’s here I’m wondering if I should get it or not. Ah I love being decisive!

I have, since their inception, found voice notes sent via text message incredibly detestable - but I only just now realized why.

I can’t play them back at 2x speed, and the only people that ever send them always do so because whatever it is they have to say is a long rambling story that they don’t want to type out.

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 895 , Friday 10/04/2026

Friday started at much more reasonable hour of around 07:30 thanks to me employing the services of my ear plugs.

We had a power cut yesterday - we got the excuse for it today - it seems that Northern Powergrid now employ smart systems that power off if something lands on the overhead cables, this is fine & dandy for the engineers but does mean that 3800 household lost power for nearly an hour! NP claim to give a 10/10 service but given that power cuts are becoming far more regular I would suggest 5/10 would be a more realistic performance value!
Cutting back your engineering force may please the shareholders but,as seen with the UK’s water companies, it results in a poor deal for the consumers!

Socialising is proving challenging at the moment I just don’t seem to have the energy.

It has been a quiet & sleepy day today, I did my chores, spent a few hours reading & then slept for an hour or so this afternoon which is quite unusual for me.

Spent a hour or so this evening messing about with Linux, getting used to it’s quirks.

My leg is still not happy when I get up from sitting down, but on the plus side it is a lot better in use.

I hope with some sleep & a few more hours quiet time I will be back to my normal squirrelly self.

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 894 , Thursday 09/04/2026

Thursday has been a quiet day, chilling out after yesterday’s excitement.

Made some serious progress with my mutant MacBook, I found an app - Deskflow - that allows me to use my Mac mini’s keyboard & trackpad with Linux!

Also found a firewall that looks a lot like ‘Little Snitch’ which I use on my Mac & like a lot … OpenSnitch is similar & seems to work ok.

Still need a text replacement solution before using it for chatting with my fedi-frens becomes workable - you know I love my emojis 😆

I also finished cleaning the chinese style lamp we got from my MiLs - it’s now in the lounge & integrated with the automation. It needs a different lampshade though - I might hit ebay or Etsy to find something suitable.

My leg seems a lot better today - it still gives me some grief when I get up but I think I’ll be back to normal by next week.
