This has been percolating in my #neurodivergent head for a while now...
I don't think the #autism #spectrum is an adequate way to view autism in the modern context of #neurodiversity.
I think there's a much broader neurodivergence spectrum that encompasses autism, #ADHD, #alexithymia, #RSD, #dyslexia, sensory processing disorder, etc etc.
Us #neurodifferent peeps are so often such an unseparable coagulation of many of the above, it's the only perspective that makes sense to me.
Thoughts?
I'm increasingly dissatisfied with the term #neurodivergent being the one preferred for someone who is (like me) not #neurotypical.
I think a trick was missed. What about #neurodistinctive or even #neuroextraordinary? A little more positive methinks.
Light-hearted post? Well maybe. I just think neurodivergent sounds a bit stuffy. #Neurodifferent isn't bad. #neurospicy is, however, dreadful.
I’m increasingly beginning to think that #apps for #dating and #hookups need to have a filter for #neurodiversity. The social and communication disconnects just become irritating and frustrating after a while.
Where are my fellow #gay, #kinky, #neurodifferent, horny folks???
@haui #BigBangTheory and #YoungSheldon feel to me like early efforts to put #LGBTQ characters in front of broader audiences. Coded and not discussed. Stereotypical, with a while male focus.
I’m glad they added a similar female character, but wasn’t impressed that only the two #neurodifferent coded characters were permitted to have a relationship. #LoveOnTheSpectrum does the same.
So I’m glad we’re more visible. I just wish it was more authentic.
I can’t say for sure if this is an advantage, but one thing that I think informs my interaction with potential playmates is my #AuDHD. The more coy and evasive they are on simple matters the less I’m interested in them. This pattern raises warning flags.
The confusing part for them, as I have learned, is that my reaction is to simply block and walk away. It’s triggering to sort out whatever supposed mating ritual they’re performing.

@lkanies @hmm_cook It may be worth clarifying what we’re motivating our #neurodifferent kids FOR?
We maintain #routines for daily living needs… getting ready school, homework, bath and bed time.
For #interests, it’s best to let them self-pilot. We can introduce them to new things and see what sticks. But are #allistic kids so malleable that it works differently for them? If anything, we worked to maintain multiple interests.
