Bindweed poll

Should I let bindweed grow on my hedge. Since moving in I have regularly removed it. I recently wondered whether leaving it would be better for nature, supporting butterflies and bees. I don't think it would reduce the amount of work, if I let it grow in the hedge unrestricted it would mean more runners into the flowerbeds. Myain worry is it would harm the hedge as I have seen hedges where the leaves are almost entirely obscured by the wide bindweed leaves.

Should I let it grow unrestricted, keep removing it as it appears, or something different?

A report commissioned by RSPB, National Trust & The Wildlife Trusts finds that current investment in nature-friendly farming is woefully inadequate. Without an annual investment of £5.9 billion to support nature-friendly farming, the long-term viability of the UK farming industry is under threat.

Research shows for every pound of public money spent on nature restoration, the return is at least three times that investment.

UK farming budget not enough to meet essential climate and nature targets

An independent report has revealed that the UK’s current agricultural budget is way less than what is needed to help tackle the nature and climate crisis.

On the #allotment I have a little orchard and the area is covered in tough-as-boots allotment grass. I’d love it to be a meadow but the grass is too strong. Last year I collected some yellow rattle seed and today I’ve found some seedlings in the grass. Just in time, as I was about to strim it!

(Yellow rattle feeds off grass so helps other plants to colonise). #meadow #gardening #NatureFriendly
