Universal #vouchers, once promoted as a #civil rights initiative to help #poor #kids in #underfunded #schools, are now a nationwide #moneygrab.

Funds mostly benefit #parents who can already afford #tuition and #kids already in #private #schools, diverting resources from those who need them most.

On a Mission From God: Inside the Movement to Redirect Billions of Taxpayer Dollars to Private Religious Schools

Private letters reveal the strategy behind the decadeslong quest — successful in 12 states and counting — by politicians, church officials and activists to make taxpayer-funded school vouchers available not just to the poor but to the wealthy.

used to happily pay for Evernote in a bygone era but @Evernote is on a terrible trajectory … defining the web as “device”… making the website unusable for free accounts if you also use the app on any (1!) device #moneygrab #userhostiledesign #desperation

Attention #Anova users, you have only a few days to get grandfathered in before they start charging you to use features you thought you paid for when you bought the hardware.

Apparently it wasn’t enough to dump ads into their already paid streaming service and charge more to remove them, but now Amazon Prime is adding even MORE ads to their streaming service.

Marvel at “shoppable carousel ads, interactive pause ads, and interactive brand trivia ads”!!

I have basically stopped watching Prime because I refuse to pay to get rid of ads in a service I subscribed to for years and already without ads as part of the deal. I have plenty of other streaming choices.

I did break down and watch something on Prime the other day and it was obvious I was being brow beat by their other recent addition that came with the addition of ads - “get lower audio quality with ads!! (unless you pay more)”. That one doesn’t seem to get as much attention, but it's quite greasy.

Another #Asheville example of what happens when there are large pots of unregulated money, and people have access to it. This continues to be sickening.

Our Tourism Development Authority, who encourage the enormous number of visitors to #WNC, taxes them, then uses the money to bring MORE visitors, residents be damned, decided a $17,000 retirement party was a good use of the funds.

Opinion: TDA drops $17,000 for a retirement party at the Biltmore Estate, another example of being out of touch

This may already be crystal clear, but the TDA just doesn’t get it. Last fall, we ran a four-part series of stories about the spending habits of the Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority, which has a $40 million budget derived from a 6 percent occupancy tax on hotels, bed and breakfast inns, and vacation rentals.
