"#Bill9... is the third #secularism project released by the current provincial government and the second this year.
It follows #Bill21, which... prohibited certain government employees, including teachers, from wearing visible #religious symbols like kippahs, turbans, hijabs, crosses, and is now before the #SupremeCourt. #Bill94... extended those prohibitions across the entire educational network, from lunch monitors to support staff. Both included grandfather clauses allowing those hired before the bills’ introduction to continue wearing symbols.
Bill 9 goes even further. Tabled Nov. 27 by secularism minister Jean-François Roberge, it prohibits face coverings in public or private #schools, from #daycare to #university. It bans prayer rooms in public schools; gives employers more freedom to deny #holidayleave; bans #religioussymbols from institutional communications; bans exclusively religious-based menus; and imposes a ban on public #prayer with exceptions."
