E. C. BigribsThree years ago today, I spun out my bike and broke my ankle in the middle of the Elliott State Forest. With the then-very-new #Boygenius song "Not Strong Enough" bouncing through my head, I stood on one leg, lifted the bike back up, and followed the map to the nearest exit from the forest. I hit snow, and a mile later I was confronted by a fallen tree across the road. So, one-legged in the snow, I turned the bike around and headed back out the way I came, 20 miles in first gear, the line "always an angel never a god" on continuous loop in my brain, over and over and over until I could see the hospital and my brain gave me the rest of the song.
