This is the beach we went to on our last day on Miyako Island. It was recommended to us by our snorkeling guide and is actually on next door Shimoji Island, which is reachable by car and where the airport we flew into and out of is

This latest post includes my—illogical? Probably!—guide to why I include the accent in Mérida more often than on the e in Mexico. It comes down to how I think English speakers will pronounce the words. They won't be saying "México" as "may-he-co." As for Mérida, I include the accent to encourage English speakers to accentuate the first syllable, in case they're unfamiliar with the city.

Cultural monuments of Mérida. (Btw I'm putting the accent in Mérida more than I do in Mexico. Why? Because Mexico appears commonly in English without accent & everyone knows how to pronounce it. In Spanish it is México & the e & x are pronounced differently than in English. Mérida appears less commonly in English & I include the accent to aid in pronunciation.)

I started a new account just for photos of Mexico. I plan to keep coming back & filling it with what catches my eye, many of which are quiet street scenes & visual beauty. Sort of a full-time Silent Sunday. It can be followed @Romex or visited at https://vernissage.photos/@romex
