Lots of new people here, so I guess it’s time for an #Introduction!

👩🏻‍🏫 I’ve recently been appointed as Assistant Professor at #Leiden University

👩‍🎓 I’m teaching German linguistics and critical sociolinguistics in #Leiden and #TheHague

🖋️ I’m passionate about #InclusiveTeaching and #OpenScience and aim at making most of my courses research-based

📚 My current research projects are on #LanguageIdeologies and #Multilingualism with a special focus on #Gender & #Migration

What about you? ☺️

In a Dutch app this morning. Why is the text “Don’t understand Dutch?” in Spanish? How big is the Spanish community in the Netherlands? Does the expression “No hablas XY” function as a globalization/international marker? Does everyone understand this sentence? So much to unpack!

I've followed some linguists lately. If you're one of them and you’re wondering why, it's because we have the same job! I work in #sociolinguistics and am a professor (in my 26th year, gulp) at the University of Alberta in Canada. By training I'm a variationist but these days I work with qualitative, discourse-based methods (happy to elaborate on the reasons for that shift if you're interested). My current (SSHRC-funded) project is about #LanguageIdeologies and the #LinguisticLandscape. /1

I’ve done a few #Introductions the last few days, but this one is more general and with #Hashtags 😍

I’m an #Academic, #PostDoc in #Linguistics in Leipzig, but this is about to change very soon! 😉 My PhD on #PoliticalDiscourse was in #Pragmatics. I discovered #OpenScience at that time, which led me me to release my annotated corpora in #OpenAccess and write a blog.

I’m now more into #Sociolinguistics with a focus on #Gender, #Multilingualism, and #LanguageIdeologies through a qualitative lens.
