Neanderthals' human blood mostly came from moms, study suggests
Long ago, Neanderthals and humans interbred. But among Neanderthals, their human blood came mostly from their female ancestors, and a new genetic study finds this was likely due to their mating preferences.

I was aware of some of the issues, same as with all non-wild #animal sources, of horrific living conditions and the negative #environmental impacts of concentrated animal waste (shit and piss) and #chemicals like #pesticides, connected with #fish #farming (#aquaculture), but I was completely ignorant of the threat to the existence of #wild #species if #interbreeding occurs.

I severely limit #seafood and #meat in my diet, and will try to avoid farmed fish especially.

Thousands of salmon escaped an Icelandic fish farm. The impact could be deadly

Aquaculture is bringing jobs and money to rural regions, but a huge escape of farmed fish in August could devastate local salmon populations

An Ancient Love Story – How Climate Shifts Drove Early Human Species Together
A new study published in the journal Science by an international team reveals that historical fluctuations in atmospheric CO2 levels and the subsequent alterations in climate and vegetation were significant factors influencing when and where early human species interbred.

Did early humans interbreed? These scientists made a map to prove it. They used climate simulations and genetic data to show how Neanderthals and Denisovans met and mingled in different regions and periods. Their findings reveal how climate change influenced the evolution and diversity of our ancient ancestors.

Neanderthals and Denisovans likely shared offspring when climate change, during that time period, connected their populations.

Climate Shifts Orchestrated Interbreeding between Neanderthals and Denisovans, New Study Says
Looking at habitat overlap for Neanderthals and Denisovans, Pusan National University researcher Jiaoyang Ruan and colleagues found patterns of interbreeding between these two hominins that correlate with climate and environmental change in Eurasia.
