They create an account on a #server for every single #hashtag in the #fediverse just so they can #boost every single hashtag that is tooted. ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

I don't manage an #instance (I ran a #BBS back in the day and that was enough for me) but I have to think this takes up server or processing resources.

Also, apologies to folks reading these toots with a #screenreader. I understand that it pronounces the word "hashtag" every single time a hashtag is used. I will eventually behave.

How do you #Mastodon #instance owners handle losing customization at the server file level after updating to the latest version? I'm currently using custom #sidekiq jobs to do this and keeping a record of what file goes where, and copies of them after the update completes that I've had to edit.

When should I drop registered users?

Iโ€™m just wondering what other Peertube instance owners think about users who request accounts and then after several months, never produce anything?

I have a managed hosted instance which means I have a limit with my storage. I can only take on new users if I have enough storage to offer. For example I only have 5 users currently. I plan on taking on more as soon as I can find the $$$ but my problem is that after 2 months two of the users have yet to log in let alone make a video. So my question is, how long should I wait before I tell them that their accounts will be removed for lack of content? Iโ€™m not about paying for users who donโ€™t make anything.

So what do you think is a good time to wait? Iโ€™m thinking 3 months is more then long enough? What do you think? (Also Iโ€™ll be adding this to my TOS so that people know when they register.)

Here's an idea for #Mastodon: if it's so difficult to decide on an #instance for new users, how about a dedicated startup instance where new people are encouraged to create accounts?

๐Ÿ‘‰ all accounts older than 3 months are deleted -> find yourself a home within that period of time

๐Ÿ‘‰ a bot gives tips on finding a proper instance to its users and help with account migration without annoying people who are Fediverse veterans already

๐Ÿ‘‰ the local timeline consists of people in the same situation -> supporting themselves

"incubator.social" is an available domain ๐Ÿ˜‰

Please do it. (I won't.)

I met Mastodon in 2022 and registered in metalhead.club, but as the most servers out there, it didn't let me write more than 666 characters (xD funny, isn't it? ๐Ÿ˜ˆ ). So I started looking for an instance that would allow me to write longer and that was aligned with my interests. I found one and migrate: a server specialized in music. But... sadly, my "political" opinions were not welcome due to its content restrictions... That was disappointing. That's why I'm here now, in beige.party, a highly recommended server by several contacts I had in metalhead.club. They were right, so here I am, starting from scratch again. I'm just waiting for the 30 days period Mastodon takes to allow a new migration.

I'm beginning to post exclusively here, so I will post a statement on my other account to let my followers know that they can find me here from now on.

Thank you for having me here! Greetings from Chile, South America.

Guys if you run your own #federation #instance, like #Mastodon or #Pleroma it is the most freeing feeling in the world to see the latest #firehose of your choosing in addition to your own #local #timeline of your choosing as well. It's the best of both worlds. The one #BlueSky offers and the one the #fediverse does as well.

The Glitch-soc fork is cool but need some accessibility enhancements.
One of them is a setting to either show remaining character limit or type charactre count on the edit box, or even both.
this enhancement will be particularly helpful for instances that have higher character limit, and people often struggle to do the math to know how much they have typed.
and it'd be nice to have the quote post outside the more dialog.
also, number system to navigate to various sections of mastodon e.g. home, notification, search, profile, etc, will allow for faster switch.
the autocomplete dialog for usernames are quite sluggish to come up and and it's hard to access them with #screenReader.

We need more Blind people using the direct UI of the instance so that we can give constructive feedback to the dev to improve the experience further.

And just like that,
#reports from https://mas.to and https://mstdn.social are now silenced and rejected. And fuck Eugen Rochko for not requiring #instance #admins to approve all user reports before they're sent on to the remote instance! Sharkey does this. Why can't #Mastodon?

So, is the mindly.social Mastodon instance finally stable again? It's been either completely unavailable or barely working for nearly a month now. Seriously considering transferring to one that, you know, works.
