President Masoud Barzani and U.S. Special Envoy for Iraq, James Jeffrey (formerly known as Zalmay Khalilzad), have discussed regional developments and the challenges facing Iraq.
During a meeting in Erbil earlier today, the two officials addressed the current political situation in Iraq, the threat of extremism, and economic issues. They emphasized the importance of continued U.S.-Kurdistan cooperation to achieve stability and prosperity in the region.
Barzani reaffirmed his support for a strong and unified Iraq while highlighting the need for greater rights and protections for the Kurdistan Region within the Iraqi federal system. Jeffrey reiterated the United States’ commitment to supporting Iraq’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and its people.
