🚨 #Jordan: Jordanian authorities resumed executions this week; executing six people, after a nine-year halt. The move is worrying, particularly as the government announced that more than 100 people are still on death row and threatened to carry out more executions successively.
While the majority of countries in the world are moving towards abolishing the death penalty in law or in practice, Jordan's resumption of executions, coupled with the authorities' announcement of their intention to expand its use to drug-related crimes, is a worrying step backwards.
We call on @MOJ_Jor and @KingAbdullahII to immediately halt all executions and establish an official moratorium on executions as a prelude to completely abolishing the death penalty.
