“Credo che stiate sentendo il presidente Donald Trump parlare di intensificare le operazioni di sicurezza nazionale e di ripopolare alcune basi” nell’isola artica, ha osservato ancora Landry.
In un’intervista pubblicata dal quotidiano groenlandese Sermitsiaq, Landry ha inoltre rilanciato le aspirazioni indipendentiste dell’isola, raffreddate proprio dalle dichiarazioni di Trump su una possibile annessione.
“Credo che esistano opportunità incredibili che possano davvero portare i groenlandesi dalla dipendenza all’indipendenza”, ha affermato, aggiungendo di credere che “il presidente degli Stati Uniti vorrebbe vedere il Paese diventare economicamente indipendente. E penso che questo sia possibile”.

The shocking hypothesis was revived by the U.S. Special Envoy to Greenland, Jeff Landry, who, after his first visit to the island following his appointment in December 2025, stated that for Washington it was time to “reassert its influence” on the Arctic island.

“I believe it’s time for the United States to re-open the door to Greenland,” the U.S. envoy told Agence France-Presse, adding that the Arctic island “needs the United States.”

“I believe you’re hearing the President Donald Trump talking about intensifying national security operations and repopulating some bases” in the Arctic island, Landry observed further.

In an interview published by the Greenlandic newspaper Sermitsiaq, Landry also revived the island’s independence aspirations, dampened by Trump’s statements about a possible annexation.

“I believe there are incredible opportunities that could really lead the Greenlanders from dependence to independence,” he stated, adding that he believed that “the President of the United States would like to see the country become economically independent. And I think that’s possible.”
