Da ich öfters mit Bekannten, die für ihre Klinik, Kirchengemeinde, Verein, NGO, Kleinbetrieb die Social Media Präsenz managen öfters zum Thema IT-Sicherheit und IT Souveränität spreche, komme ich eigentlich immer auch auf das Fediverse als gesunde Alternative zu den großen Content Plattformen zu sprechen. Hierbei ist mir aufgefallen, dass es kaum Informationen zum Fediverse für berufliche Nutzende gibt. Daher also dieser Artikel als Gesprächsgrundlage für mich sowie als Nachschlagemöglichkeit für Interessierte

Let's spread the hate around. I went into Amazon Prime. It had been a while since I had been there. I quickly noticed that Amazon hires baboons as GUI designers.

I promise the baboons are going to come back later in this story.

1. What's with the autoplay bullshit? You want to pause your train of thoughts for a second, and bam! You get a preview of whatever you stopped on. I don't want this shit. Why don't you let me press a button to start the bloody preview?

"It's been like that since forever."

I haven't been searching through Prime since forever, thank you very much.

2. If you get to the row of exclusives, you're in for a real treat. Not only autoplay is a thing, but if you stop for a second, the offering you stopped on will expand, pushing the other offerings off the screen. If you move from the expanded offering, then it will return to its original size. Don't be confused for too long, because the new offering you're now on will expand. Rinse and repeat.

Who thought this is good GUI design? Oh, crap, I've spoiled it above. It was most likely a baboon, one who wanted to show his design teacher that he really knew is shit, customers be damned.

Bitmapped GUIs were the start, and they did a pretty good job making up for their limited video memory and lack of colour with a relatively high pixel resolution.

But far too many systems designers (minus NeXT) keep misunderstanding the key importance of a colour palette that includes at least 4 levels of grey.

With even as few as 16 or 32 colour registers you can do quite a lot of grown-up GUI things, provided that the palette colours are studiously chosen.
