finally got my hands on a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro to be used for DJing and monitoring my drum kit. these are an upgrade from my Sony MDR-7506.

biggest difference is the soundstage, which is way wider on the Beyers. the Sonys feel really narrow in comparison. also, the Sonys have much stronger bass. it's honestly a bit distracting from the other parts of the mix, especially in EDM where the bass is very strong. the Sonys are also sparklier in the top end, which I have a love/hate relationship with (it's exciting but fatiguing). the Beyers are much more even in the mids and highs. Beyers are also very comfy.

in general I think the Beyers are significantly clearer, more neutral and more spacious. they also have a more reserved character which is good for working with audio, but not really much fun if you are listening to music solely for pleasure.

Created this beat over the last couple of days / weeks: It's dedicated to our little Hip Hop club Klangwerk where my friends and me had some of the most memorable parties in the mid- to late 90s. So it is a bit boombappy with R'n'B and Jazz sounds - the kind of music we loved back then. Could not find any life signs online of the club btw. - so it is a nostalgia thing, just like the sound.

An attempt at making breakbeats in Anvil Studio. I was trying to get that half-bongo/half-metallic-clank sound that you frequently hear in a lot of breakcore music. I mixed a bunch of drum instruments together at varying volumes and "chopped" the beats by just making them very short (1/64th note at 130bpm). I then sequenced them into a DnB rhythm, using a second drum track as an anchoring beat.
