Not too much ... it might be true today :(

I use Excel spreadsheets (1) occasionally to pull together my matches on #Gedmatch and on #LivingDNA, sometimes those on MyHeritage.

It was an attempt to try to treat the DNA as some sort of 22+1 set of simultaneous equations with the bits of DNA on each person's chromosome ... but it's not like that :(

For those #Genealogists who are interested, this video shows you how to copy your 23&Me results to #GedMatch , after you DOWNLOAD them from #23andMe .

#GedMatch has a host of great tools that allow you to continue analyzing your DNA and build your #FamilyTree with #GeneticGenealogy .

Be aware that law enforcement can also use this particular database. However, you must OPT IN to allow your data to be accessible to them. So far, they have been using it to help identify unknown "Jane/John Doe" bodies and solve #ColdCase crimes.

Just deleted my accounts & presumably my DNA data files at #GEDMatch & #MyHeritage following the deletion of my account & the data held by #23andme.

This just leaves my account & the data held by #AncestryDotCom & #WeGene.

Should probably delete the WeGene account too since I've never used it since I first had my DNA tested by 23&Me over 10 years go.

So, I'll look into deleting that account too.

@Starcade Against what?

Getting a #DNA test done or deleting your DNA data after a test was done. Assume it was the former.

Why would you care if your DNA results led to the arrest of a relative who is convicted of a crime?

If you & your relatives haven't committed any serious crimes which will call for search of DNA databases by law enforcement, you & they have nothing to worry about. 🤷‍♂️

But, FWIW, the greatest risk of such a discovery would exist if you filed your DNA data with #GEDMatch or another free genetic data bases which law enforcement can freely access without a warrant.

For any proprietary DNA database, like #23andMe & #Ancestry, law enforcement would need a warrant to gain access to their data base info.

It's official...
23&Me has filed for bankruptcy.

The company has been rejecting any buyout attempts, but their Board of Directors is now saying that a Court-supervised sale is the best path forward. Part of the reason for their financial troubles was a 2023 #DataBreach that affected millions of customers and hurt their credibility in the marketplace.

Yesterday, California's A.G. reminded consumers that they have the right to demand their data be deleted and that 23&Me destroy any genetic samples. (I would add that you also have the option of downloading your #DNA data and then uploading it to #GedMatch .)
