“Hikers, hunters, anglers and other outdoor enthusiasts have a rare opportunity to shape how nearly 250 state properties across northern Wisconsin will be managed for decades to come.
The Department of Natural Resources is accepting public comments through Dec. 7 on its North Central Forest Draft Regional Master Plan, a sweeping proposal that would govern everything from trail expansions to trout stream protections across 9,500 square miles of forests, wetlands and waterways in Ashland, Bayfield and surrounding counties.
The plan affects some of the state’s most treasured public lands, including the Flambeau River State Forest, Chippewa Moraine State Recreation Area and dozens of wildlife areas, state natural areas and water access sites where residents hunt, fish, camp, snowmobile and boat.”
