Perfectly & dispassionately itemized here (I never thought I'd be citing Fox News, but this is an excellent brief article going the extra mile to provide Bill numbers & links, which most reports omit):

Today we cast our Yes vote for Virginia’s constitutional amendment on redistricting.
Today in Labor History April 2, 1863: Bread riots occurred in Richmond, Virginia, as a result of a drought the previous year, combined with a blockade by the Union Army and overall Civil War-related shortages. Food riots occurred throughout the South around this time, led primarily by women. During the Richmond riot, women broke into storehouses and shops, stealing food, clothing and jewelry before the militia was able to restore order.

Get involved! On April 21st, Virginians vote on a referendum to support fair congressional districts - and you can help write letters to them! https://www.mobilize.us/votefwd/event/926957/

Join Vote Forward and volunteers across the country to write letters to voters in Virginia! At the event you’ll learn more about how to get involved with Vote Forward, the Virginia redistricting referendum, and what kinds of messages resonate with voters. On April 21, 2026, Virginia will hold a statewide special referendum in which voters can approve or reject a ballot measure on redistricting. **If passed, the measure would amend the state Constitution to allow the General Assembly to temporarily adopt new congressional districts to restore fairness in the upcoming elections.** The measure is intended to counter gains Republicans are making in other states via their own mid-cycle partisan redistricting effort. Crucially, control of the U.S. House in 2026 depends on the outcome of this ballot measure as it directly impacts how many seats will be competitive for Democrats overall. The ballot measure is temporary, ensuring Virginia’s standard redistricting process resumes for all future redistricting after the 2030 census. For the Virginia redistricting referendum campaign we’ll be testing a new innovation: **combining civic outreach with access to community support resources.** These letters encourage eligible voters to participate in the referendum while also providing access to a Vote Forward volunteer-run community helpline connecting recipients with charitable and government resources. Recipients can call or text to reach trained Vote Forward volunteers who will: - Express empathy and listen to concerns - Provide referrals to relevant support resources - Encourage civic participation and voting The most common question we receive at Vote Forward is: "what should I write?" This letter writing event is the personalized, in depth answer to that question.
