Is there no way to show a script-generated welcome message on gdm/GNOME? 🤔
I had an security idea where the welcome message would be a sha512 hash, created with todays date + time (15 minutes interval) + pre randomly created static salt.
When you are about to login you check the hash against a hash you created on your phone.
If it's the same hash, you know it's your computer and not a honeypot someone put there to get your password. 🔑
🇫🇷 Nouvel article sur mon blog : fixer la session graphique a utiliser dans GDM3 (en anglais)
🇬🇧 New post on my blog: How to set a default graphical session in #GDM3
Some context: I own a Starlite V, and I use it as a hybrid PC with Gnome and Regolith Desktop. When I work at my desk, I use Regolith, then I turn off the computer and go away from keyboard. Then on the next use, I am on my couch and I boot in tablet mode, then GDM3 by default will send me back to the last session used (Regolith here), and… Bam!
After moving to #KDE #Plasma from #GNOME on #PopOS / #Pop_OS...
When I unlock, I'm challenged for my password two or three times.
Still using #gdm3.
Ideas?
First response: "Place your right finger on the fingerprint reader." (I'm using a password.)
Second response: "Unlocking failed."
The only things I see in the logs that look relevant:
3/20/24 7:13 PM [email protected] secret_password_lookup_sync() failed: The name is not activatable
3/20/24 7:14 PM bihon kcheckpass[383187] pam_ecryptfs: seteuid error3/20/24 7:13 PM [email protected] secret_password_lookup_sync() failed: The name is not activatable

MORE INFO:
The first prompt appears to only accept a password. The second prompt can accept a fingerprint OR a password.
I've already runsudo apt purge gnome-screensaver
per https://support.system76.com/articles/desktop-environment/
but it isn't clear it helped.
