È deciso: da oggi non si parlerà più di anno del desktop Linux, bensì del... Mese! Già perché ormai è davvero difficile orientarsi: non sappiamo infat

@Prometheus @itsfoss In a manner of thinking, #Pop_OS and #TuxedoOS are the the ideal distros to use as the companies that make them are the most heavily invested in #desktopLinux and it being core to their business.
Not to set off a flame war or something but I keep going back between GNOME and KDE. I am I am constantly intrigued by KDE plasma--it seems a lot more tweakable than GNOME--but a lot of my preferences are closer to the GNOME defaults. Maybe I should look into ways to make current KDE Plasma behave a bit more like GNOME, while taking advantage of its tweakability? I dunno. #DesktopLinux #Linux #KDE #GNOME #DesktopEnvironments

Modern RAM requirements just keep creeping up. But yes, more lightweight distros do exist and remain a good option if you're repurposing old hardware. https://www.tomshardware.com/software/operating-systems/ubunto-linux-raises-minimum-system-requirements-to-6gb-of-ram-it-was-previously-raised-from-1gb-to-4gb-in-2018

Ubuntu Linux raises minimum system memory requirements by 50% — requirements bumped to 6GB of RAM, previously raised from 1GB to 4GB in 2018

Not the best timing due to the RAMpocalypse, but there are leaner distros like Lubuntu available if you need them.

oh man GAIM is BACK? This is a real blast from the desktop past--the opensource Linux native client for AIM. Between this and XMMS I should build a full retro desktop... https://www.phoronix.com/news/Gaim-3-In-Development

Gaim 3 Is In Development For Restoring The Original Gaim Instant Messaging App In GTK4

Gaim! Any desktop Linux users from 20+ years ago likely remember the Gaim instant messaging app that was commonly shipped by desktop Linux distributions for interfacing with different instant messaging platforms like AIM, MSN, ICQ, etc

This article is quite interesting and I'm interested about the idea of #immutable #Linux, at least for end users. I found nothing official on the #debian wiki.
On Debian, I don't remember having often experienced myself upgrade problems, with more than 25 years using it. Not on stable at least. (because ofc I run #testing :)
I don't know much about Fedora but I had the idea that it was not *that* stable because of its bleeding-edge nature.
