I am glad to announce the release of version 4.2.0 of GNU gcal, a software for calculating and printing calendars. It is my first release as the new maintainer of this software and I hope there are many more to come.

While becoming the maintainer on savannah went very well, it was not possible to give me upload rights for the GNU ftp server. So I am publishing the new version at:

People who use #NextCloud ! I need a bit of help!

I am in the process of moving all of my business stuff over to nextcloud now, and would like to start using the calendar there, especially for work scheduling. However, I need to have my families google calendars added there as read-only subscriptions, just so I have an overview of whats happening.

I have tried adding each #gcal to nextcloud as a read only calendar using the secret ical format address, but they just dont sync.

If I make changes in the gcal, the changes just never sync with nextcloud, and I have to delete and add the calendar subscription again to get my overview.

What am I doing wrong??

EDIT TO ADD: I'm using a private cloud based service, and have contacted their support, just thought someone here might have some insights to getting it working.

I dunno if anybody besides me needs this, but I just published a simple Google Apps script to keep events synced across all of my different calendars.

(I'm aware that you can share calendars, but you can't---as far as I know---have events on a calendar that is shared with you show up when _other_ people are trying to schedule something with you. This is exactly what Cal.com et al try to solve, but I can't tell everyone at organizations X, Y, and Z to not use their normal scheduling process for the one weird contractor dude).

Anyways it's here if you want it, YMMV, standard disclaimers apply, may cause the universe to explode (which would be a massive relief, tbh).

Here's my rant for the day. Google Calendar has been out for, what, 18 years? It's probably the most widely used calendaring system on the planet.

In this day and age, you cannot drag/drop an ICS file to it to add something to your calendar.

Importing appointments byzantine.

Is anyone else getting weird gcal notifications?

I'm getting email notifications for events that have no notifications specified. Like, a whole day before 🙁, and sometimes with GMT time zone!
