US Top News and Analysis | Ford raises 2026 guidance as $1.3 billion tariff refund assists in offsetting higher costs

AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information.

Ford Motor raised its 2026 outlook after beating Wall Street’s first‑quarter expectations, posting adjusted earnings of 66 cents per share versus the 19‑cent consensus and revenue of $39.82 billion above the $38.82 billion forecast. The company also disclosed a $1.3 billion tariff‑refund benefit following a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that declared parts of former President Trump’s tariffs illegal, which helps offset an anticipated $1 billion rise in commodity costs, especially aluminum. Adjusted EBIT guidance was lifted to $8.5‑$10.5 billion (up from $8‑$10 billion) while maintaining projected free cash flow of $5‑$6 billion and capital expenditures of $9.5‑$10.5 billion. Ford’s traditional “Blue” operations generated $1.9 billion in earnings, its commercial “Pro” segment $1.7 billion, and its “Model e” electric‑vehicle business narrowed its loss to $777 million despite a 70 % year‑over‑year sales decline. The earnings beat was attributed to a strong product mix, pricing, and growth in software and services, with the tariff refund providing a one‑time boost but not being the sole driver of performance.

Iran steps back from Hormuz? A new scenario is opening, the tension is extremely high.

Iran has proposed and is considering allowing the free navigation of ships from the Persian Gulf side of the Strait of Hormuz. The proposal, leaked in recent hours by major international embassies, is linked to a possible broader agreement with the United States and would represent a first signal of de-escalation at a strategic chokepoint through which about 20 percent of global oil and gas flows transit.

However, the dossier remains highly unstable. From Tehran, a senior advisor to Supreme Leader, Mohsen Rezaei, has accused US President Donald Trump of wanting to “play policeman” in the Strait, warning that US Navy ships currently deployed in the blockade could become targets in case of escalation. The issue was also the news, reported by the "Financial Times" but denied by Beijing, according to which Iran had used Chinese military means to strike the United States. This would be a spy satellite, the TEE-01B, which, according to reconstructions, was purchased in 2024 by the Aerospace Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (Irgc) for approximately 250 million yuan (36.6 million dollars), after its launch into space by China.

On the other hand, according to the "Washington Post" newspaper, the US could instead send another 10,000 troops to the Middle East – in addition to the 50,000 already stationed in the region – ahead of the expiration of the two-week ceasefire, which will end next April 22nd. Today, the “Wall Street Journal” also mentioned the possibility that the Trump administration could recruit car manufacturers and other US producers to entrust them with a broader role in the production of weapons, recalling a practice used during World War II. High-ranking Defense officials, according to the US conservative-leaning newspaper, had discussed the production of weapons and other military supplies with the CEOs of several US manufacturing groups, including GM’s Mary Barra and Ford Motor’s Jim Farley.
