Il primo era stato dichiarato nel 2023 per il Natale ortodosso, dal 6 all'8 gennaio. Il secondo per la Pasqua del 2025, dal 19 al 21 aprile. Un terzo cessate il fuoco era stato proclamato dall'8 all'11 maggio scorsi, in commemorazione dell'80esimo anniversario della vittoria nella Seconda Guerra Mondiale.
I negoziati
Nel frattempo, i negoziati per risolvere il conflitto rimangono in una fase di stallo dall'ultimo round trilaterale tenutosi a Ginevra a metà febbraio. Il conflitto in Iran ha interrotto il processo di pace, che aveva già mostrato scarsi progressi, a causa del forte coinvolgimento degli Stati Uniti nella guerra in Medio Oriente.
Ukraine, fourth ceasefire for the Orthodox Easter
AGI - What begins at 3:00 PM Italian time tomorrow and will conclude at midnight on April 12th, at the end of the Orthodox Easter, will be the fourth ceasefire since the beginning of the war in Ukraine in 2022.
The Previous Ceasefires
The first had been declared in 2023 for the Orthodox Christmas, from January 6th to 8th. The second for the Easter of 2025, from April 19th to 21st. A third ceasefire was proclaimed from May 8th to 11th last, in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II.
The Negotiations
Meanwhile, negotiations to resolve the conflict remain in a stalemate since the last trilateral round held in Geneva in mid-February. The conflict in Iran has interrupted the peace process, which had already shown scant progress, due to the strong involvement of the United States in the war in the Middle East.

Adesso proveranno a raccontarci che hanno vintogli ayatollah, e citeranno i giornali di Teheran: un po' come far fare il commento della Seconda Guerra Mondiale ai propagandisti del Fuhrer. Poi cercheranno di convincerci che tutto rimarrà come prima. Falso. Certo, Trump è un tipaccio, sa farsi detestare e, proprio come Netanyahu, ha rinunciato a rivolgersi alle menti e ai cuori delle opinioni pubbliche occidentali. E qui sbaglia, perché nel nostro tempo compiere anche un'impresa facile (figurarsi una difficilissima) contro i sentimenti delle persone significa andare contromano in autostrada.
Ciò detto, in questa partita, Trump per ora sta guidando il gioco. La catena di comando del regime iraniano è stata decimata. La nuova Guida Suprema, ammesso sia viva e cosciente, è desaparecida. Il progetto nucleare è stato stroncato. Agli ayatollah rimaneva solo la chance (disperata ma efficace) di chiudere lo Stretto di Hormuz premendo sulla «giugulare» della circolazione mondiale del petrolio. Ecco, ora il regime sarà molto probabilmente costretto a riaprire quel transito, anche se la giornata di ieri ha segnato una marcia indietro a un certo punto. Vedremo nei prossimi giorni se e a che condizioni avverrà la riapertura (e non si tratta certo di dettagli), ma quello sarà il segno finale di cedimento.
Non solo. Nel medio periodo, come vi raccontiamo da giorni, l'assetto dell'area sarà strutturalmente trasformato: sono previsti nuovi oleodotti per bypassare l'Iran, e Accordi di Abramo «extralarge» tra Israele e paesi del Golfo. Morale: se Obama aveva a suo tempo scommesso sull'Iran degli ayatollah come architrave del Medio Oriente, Trump ha correttamente compiuto la scelta opposta. E domani il nuovo Medio Oriente sarà meno (o per nulla) soggetto ai ricatti iraniani. Notizia eccellente. Quanto all'Ue, la sua prova rimane catastrofica: scavalcata dal Pakistan nei negoziati; indifesa sull'energia; e con i commissari europei che ci invitano a fare la doccia tiepida. Un manicomio. Chi resta dunque in lutto dalle nostre parti? L'«editorialista unico» in turbante. Mi chiedo: ma perché questi signori non si trasferiscono a Teheran?

They’ll now try to tell us they have “vintogli ayatollah” (a sarcastic reference to having influence over them), and they’ll cite the newspapers of Tehran: a bit like making the commentary of World War II for the propagandists of the Fuhrer. Then they’ll try to convince us that everything will remain the same. False. Of course, Trump is a type, knows how to make himself hated, and, just like Netanyahu, has abandoned addressing the minds and hearts of Western public opinion. And here he’s mistaken, because in our time, even accomplishing an easy task (let alone a very difficult one) against people’s feelings means going against traffic on the highway.
That said, for now, Trump is leading the game in this match. The chain of command of the Iranian regime has been decimated. The new Supreme Leader, admitted to being both alive and conscious, has disappeared. The nuclear project has been strangled. The ayatollahs’ only chance was (desperate but effective) to close the Strait of Hormuz by pressing on the “jugular” of global oil circulation. Now, the regime will likely be forced to reopen that transit, even if yesterday’s day marked a step back at some point. We’ll see in the coming days if and under what conditions the reopening will occur (and it’s certainly not a detail), but that will be the final sign of collapse.
Not only that. In the medium term, as we’ve been telling you for days, the area’s configuration will be structurally transformed: new oil pipelines will be built to bypass Iran, and “extra-large” Abraham Accords between Israel and Gulf countries. Moral: when Obama at the time bet on the ayatollah Iran as the keystone of the Middle East, Trump correctly made the opposite choice. And tomorrow the new Middle East will be less (or not at all) subject to Iranian blackmail. Excellent news. As for the EU, its performance remains catastrophic: overtaken by Pakistan in negotiations; defenseless regarding energy; and with the European commissioners inviting us to take a lukewarm shower. A madhouse. Who mourns therefore on our part? The “unique editor” in a turban. I wonder: why don’t these gentlemen move to Tehran?
