We can tell you who will really get rich from this oil crisis – and how we can stop them

Soaring oil costs signal the great transfer of wealth away from households, but also a new opportunity to redistribute it, say economists Isabella Weber and Gregor Semieniuk

From Ukraine to Sudan, Gaza, Lebanon, Iran and Venezuela, war is destroying the environment as well as people’s lives.

It poisons water, air and soil, and leaves communities living with the damage long after the bombs stop.

Hoping the Hormuz crisis helps Renewables and EVs:

"Asia, which imports 40% of its oil through the Strait of Hormuz, now faces the same reckoning Europe did in 2022 — but with increasingly cost-competitive electrotech alternatives available."

The energy security fall-out: from fossil fuel fragility to electric independence | Ember

The fragility of global fossil fuel supply underscores why scaling renewables and electrification is essential for lasting energy security.

@threetails Well, the entire current shitshow in the Gulf region really flows wind into their sails...

We need to be honest about Iran – and how our rampant greed for oil is causing mayhem

Oil has empowered capitalism, and some of the world’s most exploitative regimes. Move away from it and we can solve some of the key issues we face, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Looking at the fuel types used to supply electric power to our region this morning, I see the picture is worse than normal. Not only do we have #fossilfuels supplying nearly everything, the highest percentage is #biomass. The problem here is that the mighty #draxpowerplant runs mainly on *imported* wood pellets which is largely imported from the USA by sea. So, now that we have a war/conflict, how will the disruption to shipping in general affect the UK's power capability. But hey, isn't it lucky we have gas to fall back on! 🤦‍♂️

#News: #BillGates claimed he divested from #fossilfuels, yet 🧾⛽ analysis shows his foundation held $254m in oil/gas stocks in 2024. #Iran is doing what decades of environmental activism has really failed to do -- make the developed nations feel the pain of their dependence on #fossilfuels. Up until now it has been the South that has taken the brunt of global warming
I think the countries of the world that skipped the oil age and went from agrarian societies straight to #sustainable economies based on #solar and #windenergy will be ahead of the game after this war in southwest Asia is over. Of course that goes for those governnents that focused on growing their own food instead of relying on imports.
The energy shock from the Iran war has policymakers around the globe rethinking ways to reduce long-term dependence on oil and gas imports. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/environment/2026/03/19/energy/iran-war-fossil-fuel-dependence/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #environment #energy #oil #us #donaldtrump #middleeast #iran #fossilfuels #saudiarabia #straitofhormuz
Iran war energy shock sparks global push to reduce fossil fuel dependence

Ideas include expanding nuclear energy and renewables, growing strategic stockpiles and domestic production, and diversifying foreign sources of supply.
