"Dia Mirza links patriarchy to climate crisis amid online backlash
Actor Dia Mirza has addressed criticism following her recent remarks connecting men and patriarchal systems to climate change, clarifying that her comments targeted power structures and inequality. Mirza reaffirmed her position that 'patriarchy caused the climate crisis,” amidst an online debate triggered by her statement attributing responsibility for climate change to men.
In a social media post," she explained, 'Since so many of you are debating this, it is timely to explain as simply as one can. I stand by my statement ‘Patriarchy caused the climate crises’.'She emphasised that climate change should be understood not only as an environmental issue but also as a crisis of social inequality.
Mirza described how patriarchal systems, historically centred on domination and extraction, have led to environmental degradation. 'For centuries, patriarchal systems have concentrated power, prioritised extraction over care, and treated both nature and vulnerable communities as resources to be exploited rather than protected. Much like women and girls are treated in Patriarchal Societies. Forests, rivers, oceans, and ecosystems have been viewed as commodities. Just as women often are. The consequences of this thinking are now impossible to ignore,' she stated."

"These powerful photographs of the Bangladeshi floods will make you stop and think harder about climate change
Muhammad Amdad Hossain’s long-term photojournalism projects explore climate change, environmental crisis, and human resilience—particularly in Bangladesh. His ongoing body of work, Flood Crisis, documents the recurring floods that displace millions of people every year from districts including Kurigram, Feni, and Chattogram. Entire villages are submerged as rivers overflowed and heavy rainfall inundated homes, roads, and farmland. In 2024 alone, more than 5.8 million people were affected, with dozens of lives lost and widespread damage to infrastructure and livelihoods. Muhammad shares more about his work and how he started in photography."
@johannab Regarding the thread, @susankayequinn accused me of "doomerism" a few years ago, when I was just being a realist. I'm glad to see Sue is acknowledging the gravity of the current situation, especially the #ClimateCrisis .
