@luciedigitalni why bother? #fedi is right here for anyone willing to look for it. Anyone clinging to the #exBirdSite is best lest alone until they want to change…

@AccordionBruce and then analytically:

It’s harder to force people to make something viral by them having to do the actual boosting, and then another user having to not mute them, and not have boosts turned off, and reboost, and so on each time

So, remember "R naught", R0, for disease?

Memetics was originally formulated along epidemiological lines, IIUC.

Mastodon's shape drops the R0 in this pool. It's akin to what if corporate social media had metaphorical  N95s and 🪟💨 outdoor requirements and ↔️ human density maximums and  CO2 limits?

  •  loose matrix of people filtering out the misinfo, the disinfo, and the marketing, but letting oxygen through;
  • 🪟💨 bringing fresh ideas in faster than 'sick' people can exhale junk;
  • ↔️ keeping people sparsely enough linked that if someone 'gets sick' they can socially isolate until better without pulling the whole network along;
  •  system limits on how often a post can show on the timeline, keyword filters, detoggling view boots

Whereas corporate social media has everyone packed into the smallest nightclub possible, shoulder to shoulder, with recycled and unfiltered air. Chokingly, dangeriously stuffy!

it really is a pretty good metaphor I think.

Motorsport-Fans! 🚀📣

Reasons why I love Mastodon:

1. I can ask help for stuff I know nothing about and some expert somewhere will be like "I know I know!!!" And I get good information.
2. People also have useful links I can't find myself.
3. People will literally GO TAKE A PHOTO FOR YOU for reference if you ask, and are so damb nice about it that my heart grows three sizes. <3
4. So much lovely HUMAN MADE art. :D
5. Blocking seems to work really well.
Etc.
