Its worse than that.

Many of those pages are #darkpatterns
They display fragments of content, just enough for you to start clicking, then in the final load, surreptitiously, an ad appears where you just clicked the clickbity headline/content.

Usually I just stumble on a page like that by accident and never return.

UI #DarkPatterns from #Apple: A "choice" is given to users during #OOBE to choose from "install (system) updates automatically" and "download (system) updates automatically". Users have no way to reject update download unless they manually go to Settings and turn off a switch.

You know what #ING? Your #banking app isn't "more convenient" than your website, because every time I log in I'm shown three modal adverts that I have to carefully dismiss, so I don't accidentally take out an unneeded loan.

Oh and F-you for the "Allow custom advertising" pop up with Yes/Maybe Later options.

How is anyone actually meant to use this in a normal way?

Oh and your support chat messages also aren't available in the app, only the website.

It's honestly kind of genius how this (independent, thank you) coffee shop has:

  • A few tables, but none with comfy chairs
  • Many comfy seats, but none with tables
  • A couple tables with comfy seats, but no back support

Zur Debatte um #socialmediaverbot Häufig werden als Pro-Argumente süchtigmachende Designs, #Onlinewerbung und #DarkPatterns angeführt. Mir erschließt sich nicht, warum das nur für Minderjährige Probleme sein sollten. Das muss alles entschlossen bekämpft werden, aber pauschale Plattformverbote für Kinder lösen diese Probleme nicht. Klassischer Fall von Stellvertreterdiskussion.
