Good idea: climate action to increase crop yields

https://airqualitynews.com/headlines/cleaner-air-from-climate-action-could-ease-hunger-risks/

Previous research has suggested that some climate mitigation measures – such as carbon pricing, expanding crops used for bioenergy and planting forests in new areas – might raise food prices and reduce the number of calories available worldwide. That could leave millions more people at risk of hunger.

However, those studies missed an important side effect: policies that cut greenhouse gases also reduce air pollutants that create ground-level ozone, including methane and nitrogen oxides.

Ground-level ozone is harmful to crops. It damages plants and reduces yields of key staple foods such as wheat, rice and maize. By lowering ozone pollution, climate policies can improve crop productivity and partly offset the economic pressures those policies place on food systems.

Cleaner air from climate action could ease hunger risks

The fight against climate change could unintentionally make global hunger worse. But a new international study suggests that cleaner air – resulting from the same climate policies – could offset part of that harm. Previous research has suggested that some climate mitigation measures – such as…

Even if you can't see it, digital technologies, products & services also cause emissions. 🏭 Data centers, cloud storage, streaming services, AI tools, and the like may run quietly, but they consume a lot of electricity. ♻️ We are doing something about this and support myclimate with our annual climate protection contribution: this year, it was CHF 4,326 to compensate 173 tons of carbon dioxide. 👉 More info: https://nine.ch/en/infrastructure/ #climateprotection #contribution #offsetting #myclimate #nine

You are being misled about renewable energy technology.

He states some nonsense, which those who read about concrete slap buildings of the 70s tuned passive houses know. There isn't a building anywhere that can't be converted into a passive house or a house that delivers power into the grid aside from its own power use.

Climate action pays off: Every tonne of greenhouse gases avoided reduces damage to health, prosperity, infrastructure and the economy

Be it crop failures as a result of droughts, infrastructure damage by floods, or respiratory diseases caused by particulate matter: Environmental pressures such as greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions cause a wide range of damage to society – at an immense cost. To better assess the scale of damage and the benefits of preventive measures, and to factor them into political and economic decisions, it can be helpful to convert them into euros.

Hello #fediverse, welcome to a first (bit late) "Wednesday Noon Update" about the "#Shelter!" project from #Bielefeld. I try to give it to you every wednesday in the next two months...

Today we as students in the seminar "#design the #future" at #HSBI presented our semester projects in the local old town hall. I talked about the "Shelter Challenge" in february and march: https://shelter.apgw.de/?lang=en&#challenge

Among the listeners was Martin Adamski, responsible for #ecology, #mobility, #ClimateProtection and #health in the city of Bielefeld. Also many people from the ecology department, the #climate team, and city public relations were present. After the talks the local press interviewed some and made fotos. The city now analyses the input and will give us feedback in the near future...

One of my headlines today was: "For a culture of making it possible": Local #microadventures, #climate friendly travels, #infrastructure as #art... For a real new free #public shelter- and #trekking place in Bielefeld.

To reach this goal I'm researching options for cooperation with local groups and institutions. In may 2026 I want to start building shelters in public space, as art, as my masters project... but there are some hurdles to clear. More about that in the next update :)
